How do you think E.T. got the role? 1. There's a high likelihood that she earned that role with more than her acting ability. 2. There's a high unlikelihood that Spielberg's DNA wasn't all over that island by the time filming wrapped. Kim Henkel was an assistant to the Director of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1974 and the actors from that film had similar complaints. The low budget gonzo-style filmmaking that Henkel was accustomed to was on its way out in the early 90s. Times had changed and this type of filmmaking wasn’t tolerated as much as it was in the 70s. Just think about it; today’s young actors would be very unlikely to tolerate the same conditions as these folks did for such a low-rent film. The part where he shoots the window and smacks himself in the face is funny as hell too, or when he has to keep digging tv remotes from his pocket to make his leg work. It’s hard to take anybody in this movie seriously. That was the only part of the movie that came close to actually being legitimately eerie. You never know what that guy was running from or where he came from. He just pops up out of the woods and hits them. No further explanation is given. The whole movie is a parody of horror films. It’s the same reason that Heather refuses to die or that Vilmer’s leg continues to fuck up & requires multiple remotes to operate. It’s just a sloppy film. “Scream” came out a couple years later and did a proper parody. The rest is history. I saw a video on YouTube not long ago that showed the location. It’s just an open lot now and I think they were getting ready to develop it. Sorry that I can’t recall the video. No doubt. Shawshank is a sugarcoated version of this. It’s interesting that you refer to it as a “dreamy” place because the film is based on a book called “Traumnovelle” or “Dream Story.” Kubrick was likely aiming for the viewer to feel as if they’re in a dream while watching this. The lines between worlds are blurred here for sure. And it wouldn’t have been a quick end either. He tells Lance that he’ll be “forced” to tell Marcellus what happened. We saw what was done to Zed. The same type of torture would have applied to Vince. With today’s CGI, it probably would have ended that way. Lol Sully was ruined by the completely over-the-top portrayal of the NTSB at the hearings. They practically had the guy foaming at the mouth when he interrogated him. Instant knock out by way of plastic lunch box.
