I've never seen a Star Wars film (popular movies you've managed to avoid).

I've also never seen Lord of the Rings or the Matrix.

reply

I’ve never seen Lord of the Rings either and I’ve seen bits and pieces of The Matrix. On the other hand, I was a little kid when Star Wars came out so I pretty much grew up on It. I also have seen the next two but none of the newer stuff.

reply

I've never seen Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Fast and the Furious or any "millennial" horror movies (so, no Ring, Saw, Hostel, etc.).

reply

Don’t pass on the original Ringu (1998).

reply

I've never seen Star Wars Episode II, Episode III, Solo and Episode IX.

I've never seen The Hobbit.

I've only seen one Harry Potter movie.

reply

Never seen..Shawshank Redemption, Inception, Forest Gump, Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy.

reply

Watch Forest Gump bro. Best soundtrack ever.

reply

I don't really like big drama movies. For me its either Horror or cute comedies. And don't call me bro, its ms. tcrum to you. What..You think a girl can't win a Stonekeeper game:)

reply

The Matrix and The Hobbit series, I quit after the first installments

reply

I quit after the first Matrix movie. But I never even knew there was a Hobbit series. Or maybe I did and just didn't even pay attention.

I never went to see any of the Harry Potter films. Sometimes I'm at a house where people have it on. I tried watching them for a few minutes and I am so grateful that I never spent any money on them.

As far as older films, I never saw any of The Godfather series.

reply

I saw the Potters but totally out of order and I had no idea what was going on, my little kids loved them and they kept quiet for a bit so I played them a bunch😀

You might want to look into The Godfather 1 and 2, they were pretty amazing movies
I think most fans would agree that there was no Godfather 3, that was just a very bad hallucination we all shared

ETA: 3K posts🎉🎈👍

Shogun- Possibly true about The Godfather films. I do love James Caan. Sometimes it's just a matter of opportunity. I've come across the Godfather films on TV. But it's always in the middle and I have no idea what's going on. I'm too cheap to purchase a film I'm not sure that I'll like. As for keeping kids quiet, my son loved the Godzilla movies (argh!), so I played them. He also loved Fiddler on the Roof and watched the musical sequences dozens of times before he even turned five. Couldn't argue with him about that one. A classic. But I also didn't see Fiddler until I was grown up.

When the show Cheers came on, I never saw first few seasons. I worked a lot of evenings and when I came home I often listened to music instead of watching TV. People and People magazine would go on and on about "Sam and Diane" and I used to wonder, "WHO the h#ll are Sam and Diane?"

reply

The Godzilla cartoons shushed my kids real well

🎶Up from the depths
30 stories high
Breathing fire
His head in the sky
Godzilla!
Godzilla!
Godzilla!
And Godzookie🎵

That will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day:/

Cheers was great until Shelly Long left the show
It lost it's mojo after that

Guess it's all a matter of taste (or sometimes lack of it).

When I was a kid one of THE popular shows for the young was The Mod Squad. I liked cop shows in general but I'd see a minute of that one and be so bored. One day when I was at a friend's house, it was time for the show. The girls wanted to watch it. I don't know why I didn't say that I had homework and that I had to go. ha! One of the longest hours of my life!!!
I vaguely recall the episode had something to do with one of the characters falling in love. The girl died at the end. All my girlfriends were crying. I was (secretly) crying tears of joy. Yippee, this show is over.

reply

I dislike people like you.

Oh, I have never watched television!

I've never tried chocolate!

I never have to use the bathroom, only at home!

I have met all of these people and those who brag about things they HAVE NOT DONE like seeing Star Wars. It is typically women or weird skinny males who are some kind of weird fussbudgets.

Watch the fucking movies, they are good.

reply

I like the word 'fussbudgets' and would like to see it used more frequently

'Shenanigans' is another fine but sadly neglected word

I'm going to wedge these two words into work conversations this coming week as often as possible...let's make the world right I say👍

reply

I greatly enjoy using such words in real life. They are awesome and are like spice to language.

I serious HATE fussbudgets, for godsakes.

I had a coworker who married a literal "fuss(y) about the budget" woman. He dated her for YEARS and she was okay. Then, directly after they got married she unleashed crazy. She would look at his bank card statement and harass him about small purchases like GUM. Did you REALLY need that gum!

Stuff like that.

Then she began saying his taste in music was Satanic. He liked SOFT JAZZ!!! WTF!

He divorced her almost immediately.

That is a fussbudget and I can't think of a modern word that describes someone like that.

How do you know what "people like you" the OP, are really like?

I dislike people like YOU (ha ha), who judge people on the basis of one innocuous statement.

The reason I never saw The Godfather films (just one example) is because they came out when I was a kid and are rated R. Even if I wanted to see them, I wouldn't have been able to go. When I became an adult, I realized that they weren't my taste in movies anyway.

I'm guessing that some people like the OP are just stating that there are areas of popular culture which they've missed. Sometimes it feels weird to be sort of left out of the conversation. About ten years ago there was a popular show, I think it was America's Got Talent or something like that. At work all the women would be talking about last night's show and who was eliminated or won or whatever. I simply do not care for those types of shows. I'd rather clean my bathroom or watch paint dry.

Some people haven't seen things for various reasons. I have a friend whose husband is a TV trivia buff and we could go on and on talking about old shows and quizzing each other. My friend could never join in because when she was a child, her mother would never allow her or her brother to watch TV. She has never seen a lot of shows.

She also doesn't like to listen to popular music. Her husband and I were talking about favorite groups and I said I loved The Temptations and Motown music in general. She asked, "What's a Motown?"

People have lots of reasons for missing out on things and it's not always because they are snobs!

Regarding the super popular LOTR series, years ago I had a boyfriend who lent me The Hobbit. Said it was great. I couldn't get through one chapter. I found it so boring. My mom's never seen Psycho. Scary movies really bother her.

reply

It sounds redundant, but it's because I have met PEOPLE LIKE THAT and they are always the same.

They're oppositional "Masters of No" which is my term for them. When I was younger many females were like that. I don't like thing, and I won't do that, and I won't see this kind of movie, and I have never XYZ, and games are stupid, although I have never played one, and I won't eat this and I wouldn't do that, and so on forever.

I hypothesis that it's a light version of an eating disorder. They are supposed to come about due to being raised by control freaks. You feel like you have no power so you take control over the mundane, in that case eating. But, I know neat freaks like this too. Their life is in chaos but their closet is in perfect order and their paper towels are "where they belong", and so forth.

You friend is different though. She should want to experience things she was blocked from. These people enjoy blocking themselves from things, like an anorexic with food.

reply

TheAdlerian- yes, I see your point to a degree. I've also encountered stubborn people who refuse to try anything new. If it's just being contrary for the sake of being contrary, that can be annoying.

In all honesty, there are some things I have never tried and never will. I tried a tiny nibble of sushi once and well...forget it!! I'd never eat steak tartar either. I just can't stand the idea of raw fish or meat. If others like it, good for them. But life is too short to just try things for the sake of trying them or " going along with the crowd."

I've also never tried cigarettes! Sometimes you just don't try certain things because you know you'd hate them.

Yes, my friend did get to see TV shows that she missed when she was finally an adult and on her own. She loves MASH. But a lot old shows have never been run in syndication and she has no idea what we are talking about.

reply

I'm not stubborn at all.

There is just a huge list of films that "everyone has seen" that I simply don't care to see.

reply

The films I haven't seen usually fall into two categories.1. Ones I don't want to see for a number of personal reasons and 2. Ones I haven't had the opportunity to see.

I was talking with a woman at work and we were discussing movies. She just loves all those Saw films. I ran across a few of them while channel surfing and watched a few minutes out of curiosity. I absolutely refuse to watch them all the way through. I cannot stand gross violence and torture.
You know the expression, " it made me sick"? For me that was literally true. I had to change the channel quickly. I nearly vomited. I mean, I had the dry heaves.

There are lots of movies I haven't seen, some are just never shown on TV. Others, I'm always "meaning to see them" but I don't get around to it.

reply

Well, fucking see them because life is short and you might enjoy them.

reply

Yes life IS short. And there are things I want to do, but realistically no one has time to do everything. I try to set priorities about what's truly important.

I doubt that on my death bed I'll be lamenting the fact that I missed seeing a few movies.

reply

One of my favorite memories was going to see a certain movie with my mom.

You may go to your death bed wishing you had.

reply

Funny you should mention it, I do have fond memories of seeing some movies with my mom. There was a time she suggested that we go see "The Devil Wears Prada". I was in a bad mood for some reason and I didn't feel like going. I saw the film years later on TV and I wish I had gone with her.

Like other people, I have regrets about a number of things done or left undone. I try not to beat myself up over them.

reply

You can't, but in the moment you should say yes or plan to do things.

My mom died a long time ago and I'm glad I did what I did.

reply

Why the fuck not?

Why talk about it?

I have never seen the the inside of your mouth but I'm not going to start a thread about it.

reply

I didn't start a fucking thread about it.

Why reply to one?

reply

Never saw the matrix. I went to the first two LOTR movies but I don't remember them very well. I hated the first and fell asleep during the second. So you could say I've never seen them because my memory is quite hazy.

reply

I've never seen Titanic (1997). The idea of watching a 3½-hour long movie has always seemed like a chore, and the premise doesn't sound interesting to me. I'll probably watch it someday to see what all the fuss is about, and I might even like it. It wouldn't be the first time I ended up liking a movie that I didn't think I'd like.

reply

At the end *spoiler* the boat sinks.

reply

Haha!
