Something I have to admit

I'm terrified of airplanes. (I'm also terrified of escalators but we won't talk about that today.) I desperately would like to visit Greece. Can you tell me how to get there from the Eastern United States without getting on an airplane?

I'm split between complimenting that on being a lovely vessel and wondering if that's the Titanic.

Now you know that would probably only get me as far as Bermuda.

reply

Take a boat. There are opportunities to ride with cargo ships.

reply

I've actually considered this option before but I'm afraid people might think I'm a weirdo and taunt me on the ship.

reply

1. You are a wierdo. It's okay.
2. The others have jobs. As long as you don't hinder them, you won't be an issue.
3. You would become a real traveler with an experience few else have.

No more excuses. Make a plan and gather the info. You may not go but you will learn a lot of cool stuff.

That was an interesting read. 👍

Look up the videos on it.

reply

Fascinating, I never knew that!

I feel like this is something that probably everyone on this board knows what it is except for me. It looks like either a human-sized grenade or a futuristic beehive, neither of which I see ending well. I will need some more information on how this could be used for transatlantic travel.

reply

It's one of the Telepods from 'The Fly'. You can visit Greece by teleportation 😁

reply

If only! 😁 I've heard of that movie before but have never watched it. Would you recommend it?

reply

Definitely. It's a classic. One of Cronenberg's best, imo

reply

Thanks! I'm afraid of airplanes but I'm not afraid of horror movies so maybe someday I will watch it.

reply

I saw it a few years ago ... the ending still looks horrific 😱

reply

That's called highdaphobia.

reply

Isn't that the fear of getting rabies? I'm afraid of that, too.

reply

No, that's Hyderphoby. An mossly them old yeller dogs git it.

reply

Work on eliminating your fear. Then life will be easier.

reply

Thanks. 🙂 I actually have been working on it. Hopefully someday I'll feel more comfortable flying again. I have flown before.

reply

You have to face your fears. My recommendation - Go up in an airplane to 36000 feet and then jump out with no parachute. I guarantee that you will never fear flying again.

reply

But if I did that would I land in Greece?

reply

If you timed it right, you'd visit every part of Greece all at once!

reply

You just get in and hope for the best.

I don't like it either but I refuse to think about it

reply

I'm pretty good about doing that with some things that make me nervous like higher thrill amusement park rides but I've not gotten good about that with airplanes yet.

reply

Amusement park rides you can easily avoid, airplanes, not so much

Swim to the shores of Europe, using dolphins as your guides.
Once upon land, travel the rest of the way by pack mule.

I have heard that dolphins are highly intelligent so I could probably forgo GPS. Just let me know how many hours I need to travel before telling the pack mules to turn right.
