These round table discussions used to be fairly positive. Not now. The only fans 'squeeing' about this season are Amy (Sweet on Dean) and her cronies. A whole barrage of negative tweets followed last week's episode and even hashtags calling for the NepDuo to be put out to pasture. Even I was taken aback. Surely TPTB have heard us? It's my understanding writers are now back at work and beginning on season 13. Have they heard us? Did they listen? Mark P is staying on? I didn't know that. I was hoping Luci would be back in his cage by the end of the season. Mark's a good solid actor, no complaints there, but Lucifer has become an embarrassment. They need to stop writing him as a joke and make him actually a force of evil to be reckoned with. Same thing with Crowley. He works best when mischievously scheming, always looking out for himself and being one jump ahead. The version we're getting now is just plain annoying. As I've said before, my money's on Mary being redeemed and then sent off back to heaven. Dean's really crying - not just single man tears. I don't think any of the season finales are doing well across all networks. I've always thought May is the wrong month for Sweeps. Spring has arrived in full force. It's finally warming up here in Canada. Evenings are light and people are outside until after 9pm. After long dark winters it always seems wrong to be sitting inside watching TV when it's so nice outside. I don't know why a TV season can't run from Sept 1st to March 31st for all yearly network series. Filming would have to begin earlier of course - but summers are nice in Vancouver meaning possible t-shirts and arm porn. And the Js would be off during early spring which is nicer than hot humid Texas summers. Win Win all round. But, anyway, what do I know? Penultimate - 1.75 0.7 Finale - 1.80 0.8 I'd be very surprised if they kill off Castiel. He owns a big chunk of fandom. They're not that stupid surely. My money's on Mary. By now TPTB must realize the character has gone over like a lead balloon. They'll redeem her then kill her - and we're all supposed to reach for the Kleenex as the final credits roll. The only other annoyance that needs to die (or be caged) is Lucifer. He's about as scary and evil as a rutabaga! All good plot ideas, fishpan. These writers just go for the shock and forget that their audience needs to be invested too. If they're planning on killing Mary in the season finale - I don't think it's going to have the impact they intend. We hardly know the woman and what we do know - we don't like. Their interactions with one another are sparse and superficial So true! The amount of writing dedicated to characterization has been abysmal this season. It's just kill, kill, kill. New characters are flat and one-dimensional. Mick just started being interesting and - well, can't have that... let's kill him off! And we have no clue regarding motives or reasons why for anyone about anything. I'm not asking for soap - but, come on, we need conversations and reactions between our characters. Instead we get info dumps. Lady Twat has to explain Mary to her sons. Why couldn't we have had a heartfelt 'mother and child reunion' (as the song goes) at the beginning of the season. They miss so many opportunities. The actress portraying Eileen has another gig. Supernatural will probably only last one more season so TPTB figured Eileen will never be back so - for some extra shock - let's just kill her off violently. It wasn't shocking. It was heartbreaking and it was wrong. They just don't get what viewers want any more. Eileen was loved by pretty much everyone. I just adored that the actress's nose was red during a cold rainy night scene and make-up didn't fix it. That red nose made Eileen so real and endearing to me. Plus she was a genuine badass and she was smart. Not contrived like Mary (super hunter extraordinaire) She should have remained alive and maybe the boys mentioned her once in a while during an episode and we all would've smiled. The show is missing its heart. RIP Eileen. I'd have had Demon Dean storyline last longer and been more exciting and suspenseful. Jensen was born to play the badass. Best scene ever was Dean walking through the red-lit corridors of the bunker carrying a hammer and yelling "Sammy". We also could have been witness to Dean's good/evil struggles as MOC Dean. They never really gave that storyline a chance either. It was one of those brilliant ideas that no one really thought through. Bring her back, but what to do with her? They've failed miserably and now I can never enjoy the early seasons any more. I hope she floats back up to heaven at the end of this season. There's no redeeming her now. I also tried to get into Timeless. But congratulations on the reprieve. I had a faint hope Kripke might become involved somehow with Supernatural again and put our show back on track. But that's lost now. He nails it for me. Insulted. That's a good word for how I feel as a Supernatural fan watching season 12. I've tweeted the link for the video to Andrew Dabb. Hope he watches. Some CW shows such as The Originals and Riverdale are actually increasing in the ratings - while Supernatural continues to drop. It's sad and frustrating. They don't seem to get that the series is about Sam and Dean saving the day. Good point. :) As spin off ideas fizzled - characters got killed off I guess. Mother Mary Hunter Extraordinaire (she came back from the dead to save the world) MOL (Get Smart fights monsters with crazy gizmos) Devil Baby (solves crimes from his crib) Wayward Daughters (Eileen, Jody, teenagers and their texting and murder ) I don't know.... but I do think they've been actively searching for a spin off and forgotten about our brothers. I'm hoping the stupid bunker blows up. Either that or they open a Starbucks in the front foyer. All the folks coming and going might as well be comfy. This show has never really gotten into an alternate dimension type storyline. I think it could be quite compelling and fresh - and all they need to do is film in a BC forest with mountains as a backdrop and then ash out the film. It was effective in purgatory (I'm still steaming over that wasted potential) - and it's cheap to film. No expensive FX or working with green screen. Only issue with an AU arc would be the MOTWs. How would you slot them in? Who's the Arab wandering through the fog? It's fairly obvious (well, to me anyway) that at the start of season 12 TPTB instructed Dabb and the writers to come up with ideas for a spin off. The show has been a hit but it's dying and a spin off would continue to line pockets. Sam and Dean could even make guest appearances and continue the franchise. I think that's the main reason Sam & Dean have spent most of their time in the background being ineffective and not knowing what's going on. Anyway, it looks like the final couple of episodes could ROCK! Hope so. We really need something!! Well, they all probably get along well. If Jared needs to be home Thursday afternoon, Dabb probably says - ok we'll film around you. I once worked for someone who was fun and kind - unfortunately the department fell apart under her management and someone mean and dedicated was appointed. A leader must have certain qualities. Dabb is not paying attention. He's forgotten the show is about heroes and monsters, not meanie Brits. And the Js are not really that involved. Just watch any panel. If questions become too specific about any plot or reason for a character to do this or do that during an episode - the J's are usually flummoxed. Sometimes Dean will get into it, but mostly they skim any question that becomes too involved in terms of SL. The Js and Ms are excellent actors and they will protect and champion their characters. I have no qualms about that. But we have to remember they're at the mercy of editing and the many other scenes they're not part of - not to mention the direction of the season. They laugh about watching an episode here and there. But they're not dedicated and fixated like the rest of us. And the fans they meet at conventions are sure not going to complain - it's squee all the way. They have the power to change a few lines here & there, but not story direction. Jensen can probably say 'this is stupid, Dean would never say these words'. ( Why didn't he balk at the... 6 weeks lock up is worst than 40 years of tortured in hell?) However, surely Jensen notices the lack of Dean badass action. I know he loves doing it. He enjoys the choreography that goes into fight scenes. It's his bag. And it's been missing all season. Dean has spent most of his time rolling about on the ground. Anyway, the recent bad reviews and plummeting ratings must be a wake up call for TPTB. There'll be meetings over the summer I'd think. The NepDuo needs to be put out to pasture or sent off to write for a children's show. 1.70 Last week's episode was pretty good, so maybe more will watch tonight. Fingers crossed. I'm still mad that Supernatural killed Cain (if they did... we never actually saw the death blow). I'd like avatars and not having to type the formatting option each time. What I really prefer about this site is that we can reply to a particular post and those replies are indented - this is impossible with PTV where one can only post in the general thread. That was pretty cool. Way to go, Jared! And Jensen continues to impress me with his singing. I check out this site and PTV every day. This is the friendlier site. PTV get their knickers in a knot if you don't post in the correct thread which is a bit restricting. So here is best for me. Hope more of the old gang return.
