The directing in 2049 was very solid ... just a pity the story wasn't up to par with the original, my only criticism of that film.

Yeah he could have just snapped the sense to 'manage resources wisely' into the minds of every sentient being instead of dusting them. Would have been a loads better outcome and he would have been a hero.
The story should have been a lot better, with a myriad of tweaks it really could have been a much better film.
