On another thread, people were liking this film to White House Down fun romp but that's not what makes this film great and a classic. Sure, it's fun, silly, and entertaining but it is smart. Almost every aspect of this film was perfect, and the film was clearly well researched and richly detailed, people underestimate how tight this film was made. I can only compare it to BTTF. The more recent films you recommended are just not as good as this in any level at all. And they're talking about recent films, not older nostalgia films like Indiana Jones which were also highly influenced by the same action adventure Center films this was. What about Guardians of the Galaxy? All the cgi issues in the future are so easily fixed too like they did with TOS Star Trek, and in that sense, I don't think this film can ever really be dated. I find a lot of films rewatchable for different reasons but if we're talking about fun and entertaining films, I'll put this up there with Back to the Future actually and I agree with another poster's recommendation of Galaxy Quest. The Godfather trilogy are my favorite films but they're a different sort to this one. The character's comedic timing is really something and I missed him in the sequel. Tom Cruise usually makes smart choices in films so we will see. But I just can't imagine it beating this film. The 1920s setting, the attention to detail like Weisz Pickford look and character, Fraser's ott hero right out of a 20s/30s playbook, the enjoyable side characters like Beni and Jonathan, and what about the fantastic ancient Egypt intro with Anksunamun making that jaw dropping entrance in nothing but gold paint? I'm sorry but the 1999 version is so much more superior than the 1932 one. Just like The Thing in the early 80s is superior to the one in the 50s, or The Fly from the 80s is superior to the 50s version, and Pacino's Scarface is superior to Muni's. I love this film! It is so much fun and really the script is very tight, witty, and intelligent! That's a very rare going to pull off. It reminds me of Back to the Future in how entertaining and smart a film can be, and almost perfect in almost every aspect. I noticed that too, haha! They focused the camera on his face and you can clearly see it isn't Snipes. I always found Jeff Bridges attractive, even in Tron Legacy. He has amazing hair. I haven't counted but this film certainly did tell us her age when she gave birth. The character said she was with Andy Margolis at 19-20 and had her son 2 years later. So basically, they're saying she had her son at 21-22 making her almost 20 years younger than her real age, 50 instead of 70. Just saw it on Netflix as well and liked it a lot. And like you, the low dating on IMDb surprised me. I have it a 7/10. Like I said paranoid. As for being a loser - maybe you're projecting? I was just thinking the same thing! He was clearly closer to his Mexican side and loathed his father. I felt bad for how Miklo ended up. It's a strange twist of faith that the predictable bad seed here turns good and the good one turns bad. Miklo turns bad because of Paco's instigation and actions, perhaps he was too weak to resist Paco's charm & machismo. But Miklo was a lost soul, looking for a sense of identity and belonging, and it took little to nudge him to make him feel like he could probably finally belong. But as bad as it was, without Paco's influence in prison, he found himself belonging somewhere. i just wish he could've found that somewhere else. Airjordan's reply above has a good answer to this actually. ps. No need to be rude OP. A lot of Mexicans are Mestizos, meaning they're mixed European & Native American.
