This scene was the highlight of the movie :D "It Happened One Night" ! The story very very similar. Tonally very different - I like that. But they just could have done much more in "Roman Holidays" - more surprising twists, more jokes (fitting to the tone of the movie) Watching "It Happened One Night" I couldn't stop laughing from beginning to end + good story + amazing actors. But sure if you are a Audrey Hepurn admirer, then it will be "Roman Holidays" for you This is already a remake of "It happened one night" - and what's good about it: it is just made very very different. A totally different approach and not trying to do the same but "contemporary". So if there would be another -good- remake, maybe there would not even be a princess, or Rome. ... would have liked it more if it had ended with a newspaper article with some of the pcis and a text that is the opposite of a scandal but a hidden love message "I just escaped my chains and now all I want to do is sleep" ... she was stoned But I agree - the movie could have been much more funny - especially from the moment she wakes up in his apartment. :D:D reading this 11 year old post of people saying they are 13 - 15 ...was 19 then, but saw the movie yesterday first time :D :D That is funny - I watched "Imitation of Life" (1934) and next day "Sleep, my Love" (1948) and in both movies, there are prominent scences with Claudette Colbert on a balcony facing the Queensboro bridge - 14 years apart. "Sorry Wrong Number" with Barbara Stanwyck was also made in 1948. But if you watch closely - the house in "Imitation of Life" would have been a bit closer to the bridge than in "Sleep, my love" and there would have been at least one or two buildings between Barbara Stanwycks house as the bridge is even further away seen from her apartment. In "Sleep, my Love" there is even a continuity error - in one shot (56:34) the bridge starts off at the right side of the house, while 2min later & in all the other shots on the left side. [PART II] WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS MOVIE So for me, Delilah and Jessie’s cosmos in this movie was - hopefully outdated but - striking in a critical sense. There were other things I was missing at the movie: - If I think of the title, everything seems to rotate around Peola, while in the movie she appeared more like a (tragic) side event. Compared to Bea - Delilah is not even an equal lead character. (e.g. it was very predictable that the man finally shows up… But I never had thought a minute about if e.g. a man for Delilah would show up.) - Its good to see women making an independent career in such an old movie. But - everything is done so easily - from the first minute to 10 years later. You just do it without money, but with a sweet female smile and a bit of blinking of your beautiful eyes. Yeah, sure - this is all so very charming - but there is not even a slight incident that makes you aware, what these women really achieve. - Jessies character gets really boring at the end - I would have liked to see some interaction between Jessie and Peola, they grew up like sisters after all. But you hardly ever see them together, and that could have been key scenes as they are so equal to each other but still have so different dreams. - The love triangle is not delivered satisfyingly enough for the final ending. - and yeah, it gets a bit repetitive that you always get to see only the left of her face - especially if you have seen some other classics of her the days before ;-) ;-) Bea hadn't had any relationships, it was work work work for her - and suddenly she introduces a man to her daughter saying how much wonderful time she spends with him. For me, the adult Jessie was the weakest part of the movie. ... a bit too innocent this major :D 25 year olds :-) - Billy Dawson was 15, Larry Nunn and Raymond Roe were 17 Ginger Rogers was 31 in 1942 and although she dressed up like a minor she definately didn't wear an "I am below 12" sign around her neck. ... but the end definately is a bit creepy :D 33) you are the leader of the only state existing and you have a colony --- you need to invade the colony saw this directly after the original ... they seem to have taken the original, then removed all its highlights, put the rest in a mixing machine and overlaid the outcome with CGI :(( Wow - and in the first place I wanted to watch only the remake as I am not so much a fan of Schwarzenegger - am glad that I did see the original... But had to watch "Midnight" to get over this dissapointment - haha - that was a fun movie!! ... especially in connection with the newspaper :D I was watching Total Recall Remake until late and it was so bad - that I thought - OK, lets see the beginning of this old classic to get into a better mood again. Could not stop until the end... ... first I thought that the movie might play just during one night, or until midnight - could also have been interesting. yeah, they needed something also all those people that take prozium everyday understand. Ah Mona Lisa! - so it must be art they are burning - otherwise most people wouldn't have understood the movie: why are they burning these strange colorful rectangles? how could it have gotton a wide release - its against an establishment the establishment would love to establish feel-good? I actually felt worried about the sanity of the screenplay writers. But of course $$ explain everything "No motivation to get out of bed + no fear of your boss = staying in bed." wow - that sounds like you are under prozium already yeah - it's a pitty I didn't see the poster before watching the movie. I was thinking it was about something in space or sci fi
